Seems like only yesterday we were celebrating in a field together at End of the Road 2023. With our heads still spinning after another year of 5-star reviews and hazy recollections of festival antics, the time has arrived once again, to divulge our secrets. Say hello to End of The Road 2024’s lineup.
After many letters exchanged between festival co-founder Simon Taffe and Bonnie “Prince” Billy, the cult favourite will be kicking things off as our Thursday night Woods Stage headliner for his first-ever Larmer Tree appearance and UK festival exclusive. Grammy award-winning composer and producer Fever Ray will bring their transcending Kaleidoscopic Electronic exclusively to End of The Road; post-punk royalty, IDLES will bring their raw punchy sound to the Woods, whilst Slowdive’s alluring shoegaze is sure to make this year’s festival a one of a kind weekend. Baxter Dury will also be making a much-anticipated return to Larmer Tree after 5 years!
The groundbreaking and Mercury Prize-nominated Jockstrap will, no doubt, leave us in awe once again, whilst riot grrl legends Sleater-Kinney will ignite the weekend with their signature powerful lyrics and jagged melodies. Also on this year’s lineup is Ty Segall who will be performing a solo acoustic set just off the back of his new album Three Bells.
End of the Road veterans Yo La Tengo first played here in 2007 and have since released a staggering ten albums, their most recent being described by Pitchfork as “a mighty shoegaze wonder.”
As always, we have a strong selection of progressive, folk-leaning songwriters on this year’s bill with the likes of story-teller Lisa O’Neill and folk-pop artist Tori Zietsch under the moniker Maple Glider, whose music perfectly balances hard-hitting subjects and whimsical hooks.
You may have already seen Samantha Morton on the big screen, but she’s recently collaborated with pioneering producer Richard Russell in an intriguing new project under the name Sam Morton. Mixing spoken word and part-autobiographical lyricism with intimate vocals, lo-fi beats and a sparse Eno-esque ambience, their highly-anticipated debut album is to be released later this year.
There’s plenty of electronic music on offer too; from John Talabot’s euphoric house music directly from Catalunya to Casisdead’s Gritty storytelling; Debby Friday is an award-winning act that must be witnessed and rising Artist Lip Critic’s infectious hip-hop art-punk will be the surge of energy you never knew you needed.
We didn’t forget about you experimental explorers: Presenting a contemporary take on Saharan music MDOU MOCTAR’s concoction of Tuareg blues will be gracing our fields alongside, Shibuya-kei pioneer and multi-instrumentalist Cornelius, as well as Nustantara’s Beat innovative take on Indonesian Folk.
Post-punk fans won’t be left wanting either: Snõõper will be bringing their avant synchromatic buzz to Larmer Tree Gardens and, after recently supporting our headliners Slowdive, resh Irish band Gurriers are sure to be a highlight.
There’s a heavy country and alt-country presence with Irish country-pop auteur CMAT, folk Americana from the Alabama-born Phosphorescent, Julianna Riolino’s captivating melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Kassi Valazza, Jess Williamson and more. Plus Curtis Hardin, Jalen Ngonda and MRCY will bring just that extra little bit of soul to the gardens.
