We are incredibly excited that Stealing Sheep are headlining this years End Of The Road Christmas Special and bringing their Mythopoeia procession: elements of the The Harlequin Dynamite Marching Band plus fantastical puppets and projections. This is going to be a real spectacle, not just a gig: just what we need before Christmas.
Support will be provided by the absurdly talented Kiran Leonard, whose two EOTR performances stunned all that saw them.
End Of The Road DJ’s will continue the craziness until 2am.
Oslo, Hackney is right beside Hackney Central Overground station.
Only a few hours to go before the site welcomes everyone to this year’s End of The Road Festival. Though the main events take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; we thought it would be a shame to leave those of you rocking up today without just a little entertainment so we’re proud to say that Cheatahs, AK/DK and Speak Galactic will be opening up the Festival with shows at the Tipi Stage tonight.
18:15- 19:00: Speak Galactic
19:30 – 20:15: AK DK
20:45 – 21:30: Cheatahs
Daniel Rossen confirmed for End of the Road 2014 ( 14/08/14 )
We are delighted to announce that Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles will perform a very rare solo show at End Of The Road.
Rossen will perform two UK solo shows this summer, his first ever. One is his sold out show at Union Chapel on Aug 26th, and the second is End Of The Road.
This show is a rare opportunity to experience an intimate solo performance by Rossen featuring material that has never been played live. The set will include unreleased material, as well as songs from his debut solo EP Silent Hour/ Golden Mile released last year on Warp Records, and selections from the 2008 Department of Eagles release In Ear Park (4AD), which earned Best New Music on Pitchfork, calling it “ambitious and complex.”
Over the last year Rossen toured extensively with his main act Grizzly Bear in support of their critically acclaimed 2012 album Shields, which included sold out shows at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, The Greek in LA, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, London Brixton Academy and Paris Olympia.
Line up update ( 13/08/14 )
Sadly Mark Kozelek isn’t now playing EOTR this year. We hope very much to welcome him again soon. Juana Molina has also had to cancel. We should have a much happier announcement tomorrow. The line-up image on this website, the one with the bear, is correct and shows all bands playing.
Introducing: a quiet position | road ( 05/08/14 )
We are delighted to introduce one of the fascinating art installations at this years End Of The Road:
‘a quiet position | road’ is curated by Jez riley French assisted by Pheobe riley Law. Find the ‘a quiet position’ car installation in the woods – climb in, open your ears and travel in the company of sounds from Jez riley French, Chris Watson, Julia Holter, Jana Winderen, Signe Liden, Dawn Scarfe, Kiyoshi Mizutani, Sawako, Amy Newton, Sally Ann McIntyre & more…
Field recording has experienced incredible creative growth in the last few decades, and yet its power to engage us in the act and art of listening remains inextricably linked to its subtle simplicity. It has an ability to make us listen ever more closely to the world in which we move by making us stop for a time…
Drawing on the extensive field recording archives of acclaimed sound artist Jez riley French alongside pieces by other leading artists, you are invited to experience the sound of fence wires singing, the wind across Icelandic glaciers, telefericas in Italy, hydrophone recordings of aquatic environments around the world, ants eating apricots, Japanese hillsides, rocks dissolving, the sound of the world turning, lightning strikes in the stratosphere, and other hidden sonic pleasures.
Running Order for 2014 Announced ( 21/07/14 )
With End of The Road 2014 fast approaching we can now reveal the full running order for all three days.
We are also pleased to announce that Ghost Of a Saber Tooth Tiger will be playing on Saturday. Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s band released their third album ‘Midnight Sun’ earlier this year. It includes “Animals”, a track described by the NME in its 8/10 review as: “an epic psychedelic wig out with kaleidoscopic chord progressions.” It is going to be tremendous fun live. Check out the video for “Animals” here. (Somebody has been watching Wicker Man…)
The Freewheeling Yo La Tengo ( 24/06/14 )
We are very excited to be able to tell you that we have persuaded EOTR favourites Yo La Tengo to give us not one but two performances.
The second one will be their much loved Freewheeling show and will be at the Comedy Stage. Part request show, part story telling session, complete fun: we really can’t wait.
There are only a few Tier 5 tickets left, so we expect to be jumping to the final and most expensive Tier 6 in the next couple of days.
Situated in a secret, albeit well-signposted glade in the Larmer Tree Gardens woodland, the End of the Road Festival comedy stage is unlike any other.
There is music, storytelling, adventure and of course laughter and it all often continues late into the night, with all kinds of unexpected impromptu conversations and happenings thrown in, as and when organiser Sarah Bennetto feels they will amuse.
The acts announced today join a fantastic music lineup headlined by Flaming Lips, Wild Beasts and the Gene Clark No Other Band, an all-star ensemble featuring members of Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear and Fairport Convention.
We are thrilled to reveal that our Third headliner will be the Gene Clark No Other Band. It will be a UK premier and an exclusive unique collaboration, the likes of which is rarely seen in a live setting, joining a bill also topped by the Flaming Lips and Wild Beasts.
The Gene Clark No Other Band sees Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen and ex-Fairport Convention member Iain Matthews come together with members of Wye Oak and Celebration to reconstruct the Byrds’ Gene Clark’s 1974 masterpiece No Other.
For a full list of the line-up joining Gene Clark No Other Band, see below!
Flaming Lips and Wild Beasts to Headline ( 19/02/14 )
Two headliners, Flaming Lips and Wild Beasts, are confirmed in the End of the Road Festival’s first lineup announcement for 2014, which also features John Grant, The Horrors and Yo La Tengo.
Says festival founder Simon Taffe: “I am very excited to have finally got the Flaming Lips, one of the best live bands in the world today, playing End of the Road on Saturday night. It’s also a great honour to have the Wild Beasts back to play a headline spot, plus some of the most interesting live bands around at the moment – White Denim, John Grant, Yo La Tengo and many more.”

Jessica Pratt, Live at St Pancras Old Church ( 22/04/13 )
END OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL PRESENTS…
JESSICA PRATT, LIVE AT ST PANCRAS OLD CHURCH
WEDNESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2013
+ Special Guests
End of the Road Festival are thrilled to announce a very special show with Jessica Pratt at the beautiful St Pancras Old Church on Wednesday 11th September.
To say that Jessica Pratt is an old soul would be a vast understatement, says Jenn Pelly of Pitchfork. “The young San Francisco singer/songwriter’s deeply intimate folk sounds so sincerely cast in from the 1960s that it’s hard to believe she didn’t release a proper LP during that period of time.” Pratt’s spooky and seductive self-titled debut is the inaugural release on Tim (White Fence) Presley’s new imprint, Birth Records. “I never wanted to start a label,” Presley says, “but there is something about her voice I couldn’t let go of.”
Pratt’s debut release includes recordings from over the last five years, and steady advance in sophistication of recording and melody are evident throughout. To the artist, the record is a time-lapse document of discovery, both musical and personal. But in strangers’ hands, Pratt’s debut is another kind of discovery altogether. A fully-formed emerald artifact dug up cobwebby and cold but no less green for its time spent buried. Sun-bleached and sounding a thousand years old, Pratt’s debut is arrestingly brand dazzling new, and watch how the lights in your living room go soft and yellow when you put it on.

Stewarding at End of the Road ( 17/01/13 )
Want to be involved in making End of the Road a great festival for everyone? Can’t stand missing End of the Road but can’t afford a festival ticket this year? or simply fancy attending more than one festival, but wallet won’t stretch to it?
Whatever your reasons, stewarding is a great way to earn a free ticket to the festival and make a valuable contribution to one of the best weekends of the year…
This year we will be looking for 400 volunteer stewards.
You don’t need to have prior experience, although it’s great if you do. We just ask that you are committed to improving the experience of the people that you meet.
Stewards are the face of the festival for many people so we need smiley, energetic people who can provide polite and friendly assistance to festival goers for the whole weekend.
All stewards are required to work three x 6 hour shifts over the festival weekend, however if you are available in the run up and close down you may be able to earn yourself a day off during the festival.
A £50 deposit is payable on application. The deposit will be refunded to you in person, on completion of your last agreed shift.
Unfortunately this deposit is necessary to protect ourselves. Stewarding at festivals has become very popular. There is now a trend to apply for several events, then choose which ones to attend later in the year once line ups have been announced, or if friends are attending. Effectively this leaves a high drop out rate causing extra administration, making it very difficult for us to fill empty spaces last minute and restricts places for those who would really love to come and get involved.
(In 2010 over 100 people dropped out or failed to show up for shifts)
APPLICATIONS:- Open Tuesday 5th November 2013
CLOSING DATE:- Once all places are full
Please note: deposit payment is required to complete the application form, you will require a debit, credit card or paypal account, applications without completed deposit payments are not recorded.
Sigur Rós & Belle and Sebastian will headline ( 14/12/12 )

King Khan & The Shrines
Strand of Oaks
Tier 3 tickets are currently on sale – but are not expected to last long.

My Sad Captains
Van Dyke Parks

The Pictish Trail
We are very pleased to share with you that GRANDADDY are re-forming for a limited run of shows this year, including a UK festival exclusive headlining Sunday night at our End of the Road Festival.

THE DEEP DARK WOODS are a wonderful Canadian band from Saskatoon, who have recently been nominated for two big awards; in the JUNO Awards for ‘Roots and Traditional Group Album of the Year’ and in the Sirius XM Indie Award in Toronto for ‘Folk Roots Artist/Group of the Year’. Congratulations and good luck!
Alex Zhang Hungtai, known by his stage name DIRTY BEACHES, is a Taiwan-born Canadian lo-fi musician based in Vancouver, who’s EPs and most recent album ‘Badlands’ have been making many a fan across the world. His music includes influences from the world of cinematic sounds, particularly the eerie, stylized noir of David Lynch, Jim Jarmusch, Quentin Tarantino and Wong Kar Wai.
EAGLE & THE WORM are an 8-piece from Melbourne, Australia, with vibes along the lines of Rolling Stones, T. Rex and Pavement. Songs have been desribed to feel like a friendly jam turned into anthems with a real feel-good factor and infectious glow.
Mauro Remiddi, who goes under the name PORCELAIN RAFT, has been fully dedicated to a life of making music… from playing gypsy klezmer music with the travelling Berlin Youth Circus to playing the piano in bars in New York to being in an indie pop band in London… he even played End of the Road Festival once with his former London based band (Sunny Day Sets Fire). Porcelain Raft is pretty different to most things he’s done before, and borrows liberally from both the shoegaze and dream-pop playbooks, with layers of sonic gauze shot through with a delicately strummed acoustic guitar pattern and Remiddi’s distinctive voice.
WILLIS EARL BEAL played his first London show only a few nights ago, and it was amazing! The Chicago singer performed his set a capella and backed only by a primitive backing track. His debut album ‘Acousmatic Sorcery’ will be out on XL imprint, Hot Charity, on April 2nd and we can’t wait!!!
16 more bands added to the line up ( 21/02/12 )
We are really please to be adding a further sixteen acts for the 2012 lineup including Anna Calvi, Dark Dark Dark, Perfume Genius and The Villagers.
The full list of additions, in A – Z order, is as follows:

Francois & The Atlas Mountains
The Lost Brothers
Seth Faergolzia (Dufus)
Trailer Trash Tracys

End of the Road are very happy to announce the arrival of Boutique Babysitting. Following on from the success of last summer the childcare pioneers are coming to The End of the Road with their unique Kids Club Under Canvas service.
So, if you would like four hours off to bounce around to the headline acts, explore and discover something new or just kick back and relax then book a session now to secure your place.
The service will provide fully qualified, CRB checked childcare professionals to look after your little ones for four hour sessions, giving you time off whilst they enjoy a mini-festival of their own
All children aged two to eight are welcome and last year they loved it so much many booked for more sessions afterwards and they even camped outside the front gate waiting to get in! The parents loved their time off too!
As parents you can rest assured that your children will be safe and secure within a fenced off perimeter. The thorough security system includes photo ID, wristbands, detailed check in and out and a pager to give you peace of mind that you can be contacted at any time.
Evening sessions will run from 1930-2330 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and cost £60 and Afternoon sessions will be 1300-1700 on Saturday and Sunday for £40.

Secret artist revealed! ( 06/09/10 )
It is with great excitement that we can announce today one of the secret artists performing at this year’s festival: Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan.
Thursday was never meant to be a day with lots of things going on… it’s just there to give people a chance to pitch their tents, chill out and make some new friends before it all kicks off on Friday.
However, as we love surprises, we thought why not add a little something… and hence Isobel & Mark will be playing in the Tipi Tent early Thursday evening.
On another note – we regret to share with you the news that Ra Ra Riot and The Hello Morning are no longer able to make it over to the festival (they both had their funding pulled last minute) and instead we have booked Yuck and Olivia Chaney to replace. We hope you like.
Change in the line up! ( 23/08/10 )
On very short notice, we have managed to confirm Steve Mason (formerly of the Beta Band, King Biscuit Time & more) to replace Dengue Fever, who were forced to cancel their whole UK tour due to being signed to a new label and having to go into the studio immediately to meet album deadlines. Dengue Fever send their sincere apologies and hope to make it to End of the Road next year instead, we were devastated when we got the news.
And as there’s been a petition amongst our festival goers to get Allo Darlin’ to play a second set, we were chuffed when they said yes right away to fill a Friday slot when we were faced with Alice Gold having to cancel due to cirumstances beyond her control. So, Allo Darlin’ will rock both Thursday and Friday! Bring it on!
Tickets for 2010 have now all SOLD OUT ( 20/08/10 )
Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year, and see you all in September!
(there are a limited few campervan passes still available)
New additions to the Festival Shop ( 20/08/10 )
NEW T-SHIRTS & MORE, ON SALE NOW IN THE END OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL SHOP…
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It’s T-shirt time…
In addition to our super special edition ’5 Years of End of the Road Festival’ Poster, which we launched a couple of weeks ago and of which there will only ever be 100 made, our Peacock t-shirts are now being sold exclusively online at the very reasonable price of £15.
Today in the shop we also release the self-titled debut EP from the wonderful Daniel Lefkowitz.
“Rooted in the American folk tradition, Lefkowitz brings to his songwriting a form stirpped bare and beautiful. His melodies flood the musical body with bold blood, delivering potent words with the sound of an uncensored heart. His is a spirited offering that undulates with the intangible struggles of our current experience, as well as a subtle romanticism for tides and seasons bygone. Surrendering himself with a fierce abandon, at times with tenderness, at times with desperation, Daniel have a voice of gold and dust, like a good blade a bit rusted. With the sensibility of a poem or short story, Daniel’s lyrical content is ripe with abstract sketches of the intrigues of death and dreams unborn, the confusion of identity and intent, and the overwhelming ebb and flow of love.”
He plays the Garden Stage at End of the Road on Sunday at 3.30pm. You can also catch him live in London:
Wed 8th September: Slaughtered Lamb w/ Annie & The Beekeepers
Thurs 9th September: The Luminaire w/ Treetop Flyers
Mon 13th September: The Windmill in Brixton w/ Citay

The Fresh & Onlys
New literary element added to the woodland library ( 09/07/10 )
Many of you will be familiar with the library which is built in the woods every year at the festival. It will once again be stocked with plenty of wonderful titles for you to browse and this year we even have a librarian on hand to help you with your choices and to officially check out your books for return at next year’s festival, as well as checking in any books that you may want to bring to add to the shelves. The library will this year play host to a series of talks from writers, these will take place each day at 11.30am and will provide a unique opportunity for you to hear their thoughts and ask them questions in a magical environment.
